Its better if he holds off the release for this year. I repent for not watching intersteller in IMAX when it was released. Tenet kuda ilanti times lo release chesthe esp in IMAX which has huge seating capacity usually many might not show interest and same applies in my case too. [frown]

Looks spectacular but i'm not too excited because of the uncertainty created by this pandemic. Hopefully things will get back to normal pretty soon and we all can watch this the way Nolan intended.

‘Tenet,’ ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Push Back Theatrical Releases

“Tenet,” Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated espionage thriller, has pushed back its theatrical debut by two weeks, ending months of speculation about whether or not the $200 million tentpole would hold onto its mid-July release date.

The Warner Bros. film, which stars Robert Pattinson and John David Washington, was initially slated for July 17 and will now debut in cinemas on July 31. On the date that “Tenet” was expected to open, theaters will re-release one of Nolan’s biggest hits, “Inception,” in honor of its 10th anniversary.

Warner Bros. also postponed “Wonder Woman 1984” nearly two months, from Aug. 14 to Oct. 2. This marks the second shift for the superhero sequel, directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot. The film was originally set to kick off summer on June 5, but was delayed until August once theaters began to close due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re especially thrilled, in this complex and rapidly changing environment, to be bringing Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet,’ a global tentpole of jaw-dropping size, scope and scale, to theaters around the world on July 31,” said Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group. “It’s been longer than any of us could’ve imagined since we’ve seen a movie on the big screen, and to acknowledge Chris’ fans as we count down to ‘Tenet’’s” opening day, we are also excited to offer his masterpiece ‘Inception’ in theaters for its 10th anniversary on July 17.”

Nolan, one of the most ardent supporters of the big-screen experience, was hoping “Tenet” would usher audiences back into theaters, which have been mostly closed across the country since the middle of March to help curb the global health crisis. Though some states have started to reopen cinemas, major movie theater chains like AMC, Regal and Cinemark don’t have plans to resume business until later in the summer. When they are able to restart shop, it’s unclear how willing audiences will be to return to the movies. Though “Tenet” was only slightly shifted back, Warner Bros. believes more theaters will be open by the end of July.

While every other major Hollywood studio has shifted, delayed or amended plans to premiere its movies, Warner Bros. long held firm that “Tenet” would maintain its release date. However, the studio reignited doubts that “Tenet” would debut as planned when it launched a new trailer last month that conspicuously lacked an opening date.

“We are excited that our partners at Warner Bros. will offer a new generation of film fans the opportunity to enjoy Inception the way it was originally intended to be seen — on the big screen,” the National Association of Theatre Owners, the exhibition industry’s trade organization, said in a statement. “Over these last months we have been keeping Warner Bros. closely informed of our work towards reopening our theatres in accordance with governmental health and safety requirements, and we are looking forward to audiences enjoying Tenet in our theatres all around the world on July 31st.”

Now, Disney’s remake of “Mulan” will be the first major film to reignite moviegoing when it debuts on July 24. Before that, two smaller movies — Russell Crowe’s thriller “Unhinged” from Solstice Studios and Sony’s romance drama “The Broken Hearts Gallery” — are slated to launch in theaters on July 10. Since those films are both modestly budgeted, they give theater owners the opportunity to show fresh content on the big screen with less of a risk for their financial backers.

Korea’s ‘Peninsula’ Blasts to $20.8 Million Opening Weekend Across Asia

Next Entertainment World

The much-awaited release of “Peninsula” in South Korea lived up to the hype, despite capacity limitations and other social distancing measures imposed across the nation’s cinemas.

With number one openings in four other Asian territories, it finished the weekend with a $20.8 million cumulative score.

In Korea, the “Train to Busan” sequel earned a thumping $9.20 million over the weekend from 2,575 screens, giving it an unapproachable 93% market share. Including revenues earned in the first days after its Wednesday release, “Peninsula” completed its first five days in Korean theaters with a cumulative of $13.2 million for distributor Next Entertainment World. It sold 1.23 million tickets over the weekend and 1.80 million over five days.

“Peninsula” easily pushed aside older titles that had been playing in Korea since cinemas reopened. “Bombshell,” which opened on July 8, added $158,000 for a cumulative of $984,000 after three weekends. Korean hit, “#Alive” earned $150,000 in its fifth weekend on release, for a cumulative score of $13.0 million.

In overseas territories, “Peninsula” also did strong business. In Taiwan, where it is handled by MovieCloud, it earned $4.7 million over five days. With some 2,300 screenings per day, it enjoyed a market share of 76%. In Malaysia, it topped the box office for four days. Those four days and midnight screenings on Wednesday combined for a $955,000 (RM4.07 million) total. In Singapore, “Peninsula” had five days of release and became the top opening Korean film of all time, besting the “Train To Busan” opening weekend by Saturday – despite 50 seats per hall restrictions. In Vietnam, it played for three days from Friday and topped the chart each day. Including sneak previews from July 17, it earned $1.17 million.

“Peninsula” will next open in Thailand, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Cambodia.

The film’s opening performance also handed the Imax theater circuit its first $1 million weekend in several weeks. Within the Korean total, “Peninsula” earned $365,000 from 18 Imax screens. That was the fourth highest-scoring weekend for a Korean-language film in Imax, despite the capacity limitations.

The arrival of “Peninsula” in Korean theaters did not come a moment too soon. Data released recently by the Korean Film Councils showed box office tumbling by 70%, to just $228 million, in the first six months of the year, compared with the first half of 2019.

Admissions were down 67% in February, 88% in March, 93% in April and 92% in May, before beginning to turn the corner. In June, admissions were down 83% year-on-year.

In the absence of confirmed dates for major Hollywood movies, major Korean titles are now lining up their releases. “Steel Rain 2: Summit” will release on July 29, and crime-actioner “Deliver Us From Evil” is targeting Aug. 5.
