Good response to AP FiberNet services

Tirupati: Internet, phone, television channels and other services being offered through a broadband connection by Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Limited (APSFL) for Rs 149 per month to every house is getting good response from the people of Chief Minister’s home district.

The APSFL gave 25,000 connections in two months in the district. The State government is providing the FibreNet services through high-end technology by laying Optic Fibre Cables (OFCs) from the local electric sub-stations and HT electrical lines are used for data transmission with high quality.

Two days ago, District Collector PS Pradyumna had reviewed the progress of FiberNet services. He directed the MPDOs to ensure FiberNet connections were given to every household in their jurisdiction.

He asked the Multi-System Operators (MSOs) to explain the benefits of FiberNet to people especially in villages. The government had appointed MSOs and Local Cable Operators (LCOs) to provide broadband connections in the district.

Speaking to The Hans India, Tirupati-based MSO N Pravallika said that there was good response from all sections of the society for services being offered by the FibreNet.

“We have crossed more than 5,000 connections in the last two months. My target is to reach 10,000 connections in the next two months,” she stated.

Regarding the broadband speed and quality, Rukmangada Raju of LS Nagar in Tirupati said the picture and sound quality is very good and he is enjoying unlimited net facility. “I have been viewing the YouTube and other social media content on TV screen without a computer or mobile,” he stated.

Andhra Pradesh: E-Autos to hit roads in Guntur

GUNTUR: Environment friendly electric autos will hit the city shortly. Vexed with the high pollution and traffic woes being caused by the diesel and petrol autorikshaws, the district administration has decided to encourage the autos in a big way. The district administration has decided to relax registration norms for the auto drivers who will be shifted to new mode of public carrier, e-auto, to make the city pollution free.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/img/64882206/Master.jpg

District collector Kona Sasidhar and GMC commissioner Shrikesh B Lathkar inspected the e-autos manufactured by Bharath Automobile works here on Thursday. After making a trial run, district collector Sasidhar and Shriekesh expressed their satisfaction on the functioning of the vehicle and resolved to encourage the e-autos.

Speaking to reporters, district collector said that they would relax the registration norms for e-autos and grant permission to run any number of e-autos. “About 30000 autos are moving on the city roads making them congested. The existing autos are main culprits of high volumes of air pollution in the city,” said the collector.

The collector said that they would encourage any company that comes forward to manufacture e-autos. He said that they have already imposed a ban on registration of diesel, petrol autos in the city and they would encourage the drivers to go for the e-autos. He said that they would phase out the existing diesel, petrol autos slowly and introduce the e-autos. Deputy transport commissioner GC Rajarathnam and district revenue officer K Nagababu were also present.

Interestingly, the e-auto costs just Rs 1.5 lakh while the conventional fossil fuels based autos cost Rs 3.5 lakh. The good transport mode e-auto cost just Rs 1.45 lakh. The e-auto is re-chargeable and economical.

Anantapur tops AP in drip irrigation

THE HANS INDIA |    Apr 28,2017 , 11:06 PM IST

[grabon]

A farmer using fetigation method to supply water and fertilisers uniformly to his horticulture crop in Anantapur district
A farmer using fetigation method to supply water and fertilisers uniformly to his horticulture crop in Anantapur district

Anantapur: The district stands first in tapping micro-irrigation devices in the state. 1.63 lakh hectares have been brought under drip irrigation due to untiring efforts put in by the Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP). In a district where water resources cannot even be bought with money and water more precious than liquid gold, the efforts to prevent wastage and ensure optimum utilisation of water assumed significance.

APMIP Project Director (PD) Venkateshwarlu told The Hans India that the biggest feat of bringing the farmers under drip irrigation and linking every crop particularly horticulture plants on a mission mode was taken up a couple of years ago and it produced positive results. In 2015-16, 23,220 hectares were added and in 2016-17, 27,378 hectares were added further boosting the area coverage under micro-irrigation. There are actually 2.15 lakh bore-wells out of which 1.65 lakh are functioning and 2.47 lakh hectares irrigated by the bore-wells.

By 2017-18, the APMIP is all set to bring the total irrigated area under drip irrigation on a saturation mode. Every year due to poor monsoon conditions, 25 per cent of new area is coming under horticulture unable to coup up with water scarcity caused by crops which demand more irrigation. The district administration is now following a holistic approach for optimum utilisation of meagre water resources by not merely treating drip irrigation as a water saving devise. The APMIP is also encouraging farmers to also go for mulching to tackle evaporation losses and moisture evaporation.

The PD has also introduced what he calls 'fetigation' a process under which fertilisers and water are mixed uniformly and supplied to horticulture crops in a scientific way. With the introduction of the fetigation process, the vegetable and horticulture farmers are able to achieve higher yield of banana and muskmelon by 100 per cent and mangoes, sweet lime, guava and custard apple by 90 per cent. Banana is experiencing a higher yield by 60 per cent and tomatoes by an increase of 100 metric tonnes per acre. Fetigation also prevents clogging of drippers.

Andhra CM to inaugurate first-ever thermal battery plant

ANI | Updated: Aug 05, 2018 07:28 AM IST

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), Aug 5 (ANI): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will unveil the world's first-ever thermal battery in his Andhra Pradesh state on Monday.

Manufactured by the Bharat Energy Storage Technology Private Limited (BEST), the first-of-its-kind cell is aimed at boosting up renewable sources of energy production, instead of non-renewable fossil fuel-based energy generation.

The technology, which will help in mitigating carbon emissions, is best suited for grid balancing and stabilisations. It will also be used to store energy for telecommunication, commercial establishments, electric vehicles and highway charging stations. It can also be effectively used in remote locations, such as hilly terrains and islands.

The BEST also aims to set up a Greenfield Project in India, at an estimated cost of Rs. 660 crores, through which nearly 3000 jobs are expected to be created within three years' time.

From a capacity of 1000 megawatts, BEST would enhance the same to 10 gigawatts in the next six to seven years. Batteries suited for telecommunications, mini or microgrids and electric buses would be manufactured in the first phase.

Under the project, electric buses, produced in collaboration with Bilva Motors, a global consortium, could deliver an 800-kilometre range with a single charge, with the help of BEST's thermal cells. The cell can be customised to be charged in four or eight hours, depending on the source. It can also provide output ranging between 5Kwh and 1 Mwh.

The plant in Andhra Pradesh is expected to start commercial operations by May 2019.

Although solar power is considered the most reliable source of energy yet it has pitfalls. The energy generation is not possible after sunset and high rainfall areas, which brings in the need for a robust energy storage infrastructure. Thus, the coming of thermal battery is a landmark development in the field of technology and environmental protection.

Existing energy storage technologies depend on Lithium-based batteries, which are limited by life cycles, making it a very expensive proposition with replacements needed every six to seven years. They are also low on energy density and need a high footprint.

Furthermore, Lithium's sensitivity to extreme temperatures requires the energy storage systems to be placed in conditioned temperatures, requiring about eight to ten per cent energy storage for the cause.

However, BEST's High Energy Density Storage (HEDS) device is a revolutionary technology- invented and patented by Dr Patrick Glynn in India 2016.

What sets this storage device apart is the fact that it requires a small footprint and is priced at par with Lithium-based solutions, which have limited life cycles.

The company also plans to deliver the storage devices that are 100 per cent environment-friendly, using no hard metal or inflammable substances, and those which comprise 95 per cent re-usable materials.

It also aims at thriving in the global market by helping curtail global warming and carbon emissions and looks forward to helping achieve the Government of India's vision of electrified mobility by 2030. (AN
