Long post, so please bear with me.. in case of no interest, TLDR and rating at the end..

Series about a family owned business empire..

Context: Very typical context.. Dad becomes old but doesn't like to let go off the hold where as the next generation is eager to get in, hence the struggle that ensues.. no major graphic context both in terms of sex & violence (except for a couple of scenes), just pure drama..

boy-o-boy are we in for a ride.. it is just 2 seasons in but if HBO ensures they maintain this level, it will definitely end up as a masterpiece in the lines of Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad et.al

Background & Setting: Obviously a rich setting, but its so beautiful how they made it just as a background for the politics and greediness that the characters drive.. you quickly overlook the richness & luxury around you, interested in how the story will play out and what the characters will do..

Character design: Every character has a grey area, each and every one.. it is just the degree that varies.. layered character design with traits changing as per the situation.. there is definite growth & arc for most of the characters even within the 2 seasons released yet..

Acting: One of those shows where everyone just nails what they have to perform.. you just give in to the acting and starts believing these are real traits of these people.. Especially for the Characters of Logan Roy, Kendall Roy, Shiv Roy..

Dialogue & writing: The writing is so crisp.. it is so crisp that when a proper dialogue or monologue comes in, it hits you really hard.. they nail the dialogue for almost every emotion including fear, weird, word fumbling, frustration etc.

Music: Nicholas Britell is a genius, pure genius.. I eagerly waited for the opening credits every time as that score is so beautiful to the ears and it just gets stuck in your head.. such was the effect that I used to get reminded of that score in between the 1 hour long episodes on multiple occasions..

Pace: This is a slow burn similar to Breaking Bad, especially the initial 3-4 episodes, where you travel with the characters and you wouldn't know when you are so stuck with the proceedings that you can't stop watching.. it took me the entire Season 1 to properly get glued in with the set-up but then that Season 2 was quite a ride and completely paid off.. [love][love]

Jump cuts: One aspect I can think of as a negative (only one) is jump cuts similar to mockumentary style.. at certain places it just disturbs the flow of whats happening on screen.. hope they stop this for coming seasons except when they have to capture the emotions of the characters through their facial expressions.. which, by the way, this series captures to the T.. my god that last cut on Logan's face at end of Season 2 [crazy][crazy]

TLDR: A must watch for people who enjoy family & business drama with impeccable acting, writing, music.. this may as well become a classic, if HBO maintains this level, in the lines of Breaking Bad, The Wire and Sopranos..

Rating:
Overall - 8.5/10
Season 1 - 7.5/10
Season 2 - 9.5/10

If you have felt the series was decent, at the least, by the end of 4th episode.. definitely resume, it won't disappoint.

I have right now. It has British style dry humour and simple drama which I like.

Thanks for sharing.
