‘Adiyozhukkukal’

A family drama directed by IV Sasi and written by MT Vasudevan Nair; starring Mammootty, Seema, Mohanlal, Balan K Nair, Vincent and Rahman in the main roles. Mammootty plays Karunan, an arrogant fisherman who returns to his village after serving five years in jail. He finds everything changed in his absence; even the girl he loved gets married to someone else. Karunan, with the help of Gopi (Mohanlal), gets his business back on track. Mammootty received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his performance as Karunan. The movie was a super hit at the box office.

‘Aavanazhi’

A murder mystery, written and directed by Ranjith starring Mammootty, Shwetha Menon, and Mythili, ‘Paleri Manikyam’ was based on a bestselling Malayalam novel of the same name by T. P. Rajeevan which said the true story of the first recorded murder case in Kerala. Mammooty plays three characters in the film. The movie tells the story of a private detective, who returns to his birthplace, a village called Paleri, to solve a murder mystery that occurred on the night he was born.
